Ian has had many years of involvement as a planning committee member including a time as a co-lead with the BCEA’s Great BC ShakeOut prior to joining the Board of Directors.  A long time advocate for emergency preparedness, he likes the concept behind ShakeOut, noting that “the drill makes it simple to be prepared”.  In his professional role as Director of Search and Rescue for Emergency Management BC, Ian is passionate about giving back and creating a culture of wellness and preparedness.

As a connector, he takes opportunities to network, through face to face and online interactions, and brings these skills to emergency preparedness. One of Ian‘s personal goals is to make sure that factual information is available.  He notes that he uses social media to “amplify people who are sources of truth”.  A favorite saying is “Be Prepared, not Scared.  Every step and increment, even if small will help”.  Living in a zone of seismic risk, earthquake preparedness is one of his passions.  In his spare time, he has become well known for his baking and bread making skills.
